Community Discussion of 63 Washington Street Women’s Recovery Residence

January 24 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

As part of the Mid-Coast Recovery Coalition’s (MCRC) ongoing effort to inform and involve the community in regard to the new women’s recovery house in Camden, the third public meeting in a series of meetings will be held at the Chestnut Street Baptist Church in Camden on January 24 from 6 to 8 PM.

Previous meetings were held on December 12th and 20th, the second of which was facilitated by Peggy Smith, a certified trainer with the International Center for Nonviolent Communication, with over four decades at the forefront of bringing empathic thinking and communicating to our region.  The December 20th session cataloged the perspectives, concerns and prospective solutions of those in attendance.  At the next meeting on January 24, MCRC will share its plans regarding opening and operating the residence.  Key points will include:

  1. MCRC will seek community members to join a “Community Advisory Committee” to give input into policies, procedures and running of the house.
  2. MCRC will seek interested community members, interested in MCRC’s and 63 Washington’s success, to join the MCRC board of directors
  3. MCRC will fully share with the public its policies, application process and outcomes of the program (while preserving the privacy and confidentiality of the residents)
  4. Community members will be encouraged to volunteer with the running of the house, maintaining the community garden (a 63 Washington tradition for many years) and property.
  5. MCRC will continue to seek ongoing donations to sustain the house for many years while MCRC will seek federal, state and local government funding and foundation grants.
